These strategies were directed at preserving the material and symbolic patrimony within the framework of the changes produced by the destructuration of the colonial order and the beginning of the revolutionary process. The lands belonging to "the Garcías" are a good example of the settlement process in the frontier area and also of the strategies developed by groups of power, at the beginning of the period, aiming to defend and raise the dubious price of their patrimony. The paper analyses the mechanisms implemented in the construction and continuity of lineage, the increase of family patrimony and the extension of kinship through marriage. El trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar las estrategias desarrolladas por una familia de la elite tucumana, los García de Valdés, para preservar su patrimonio material y simbólico en el marco de los cambios producidos por la desestructuración del orden colonial y el inicio del proceso revolucionario. Las tierras de "los Garcías" representan un buen ejemplo del proceso de ocupación del espacio fronterizo y del despliegue de estrategias de los grupos de poder para defender y valorizar un patrimonio de dudoso valor a comienzos del período. Para lograr el objetivo propuesto se analizaron los mecanismos implementados para la construcción y continuidad del linaje, el acrecentamiento del patrimonio familiar y la extensión del grupo de parentesco a través de alianzas matrimoniales. Este artigo analisa as estratégias desenvolvidas por uma família de elite tucumana, os García de Valdés, para preservar seu patrimônio material e simbólico no contexto das mudanças trazidas pelo desmantelamento da ordem colonial e o início do processo revolucionário. As terras dos "Garcías" representam um bom exemplo do processo de ocupação da fronteira e da implementação de estratégias por grupos de poder para defender e valorizar um patrimônio de valor duvidoso no início do período.
