For this purpose, a documentary work was chosen aimed at identifying the main theoretical approaches in the specialized bibliography. In this framework, thirteen studies available in three catalogs with wide circulation in the region were analyzed: SciELO, Redalyc and Google Scholar. As a result, a series of epistemological considerations are proposed for carrying out research focused on this topic. The ultimate goal of these contributions is to reinforce the scientific study of violence in school settings to develop educational proposals that offer answers to a confusing and controversial problem. El presente artículo se propone llevar a cabo una revisión conceptual de la violencia escolar con el objetivo de sistematizar y analizar la multiplicidad de definiciones y corrientes teóricas que influyen sobre la objetivación de la problemática. Para ello se optó por un trabajo documental orientado a identificar los principales enfoques teóricos en la bibliografía especializada. En este marco, se analizaron trece estudios disponibles en tres catálogos de amplia circulación en Latinoamérica: SciELO, Redalyc y Google Académico. Como resultado, se propone una serie de consideraciones epistemológicas para la realización de investigaciones orientadas en esta temática.
