The current paper shows, from theoretical and methodoligical considerations, the analysis done by the researcher to understand the interethnic social conflict facing a powerful sector of Asunción society with the Jesuits and Guaraníes of the settlements (reducciones) for more than a decade. La historia de los conflictos sociales provocados por la consolidación del sistema de reducciones jesuíticas del Paraguay durante el siglo XVII, nos permite abordar, desde una perspectiva casi inexplorada por los investigadores, la historia de las relaciones interétnicas hispano-guaraníes. El presente trabajo despliega, a partir de consideraciones teórico-metodológicas, el énfasis efectuado por la investigadora para comprender un conflicto social de gran envergadura que enfrentó, por más de una década, a un sector poderoso de Asunción con los jesuitas y guaraníes de las reducciones. A história dos conflitos sociais desencadeados pela consolidação do sistema jesuítico de reduções no Paraguai durante o século XVII permite-nos abordar a história das relações interétnicas hispano-guaranis a partir de uma perspectiva praticamente inexplorada pelos pesquisadores.
