Sumario:In this article, I synthetically plan to review problems, objectives and variables of research on festivities and ceremonies of royal power in colonial Lima. The intention is explaining the theoretical framework of interpretation and analysi, together with the methodology elaborated for the treatment of the above mentiones matter. Moreover, I decided to present a synopsis of one of the celebrations analyzed, so the reader can imagine the basic actors and scenery referred to. Colonial celebration is the object of research from which I try to question and clarify aspects of the sociocultural dynamics of the urban colonial society. I also try to contribute to the discussion of pertinence of certain conceptual tools arising from theoretical traditions regarding the relationship between symbolism and power.
