The question of why they settled in a territory considered so poor in regards to their expectations, leads to a confrontation of their ideals with the structure of options offerd by the "provinces of Tucumán". Taking into account the requests presented in these documents, it is clear that they were asking the king for resources in order to guarantee a new life for themselves in the colonies. Being first conquistadors and inhabitants -"primeros pobladores y conquistadores"- brought privileges (receiving royal mercies, right to neighborhood, and granting of nobel titles) that played a key role in the definite settlement of the region A través del análisis de probanzas de méritos y servicios del Tucumán colonial se buscó reflexionar sobre los valores e ideales de los conquistadores españoles del siglo XVI. la confrontación de sus ideales con la estructura de opciones que ofrecían las "provincias del Tucumán" llevó a preguntarse por qué se asentaron en un territorio que consideraban tan pobre en relación a sus expectativas. A partir de las solicitudes expuestas en estos documentos se llegó a evidenciar que lo que solicitaban al Rey eran recursos para garantizarse una nueva vida en las colonias y que los privilegios que guardaban la condición de "primeros conquistadores y pobladores" (recibir mercedes reales, el derecho a la vecindad y la concesión de hidalguía) jugaron un papel centarl en la radicación definitiva en la región del Tucumán. Uma reflexão sobre os valores e ideais dos conquistadores espanhóis do século XVI é realizada a partir da análise de documentos arquivísticos específicos –Probanzas de méritos y servicios– da Tucumán Colonial. A questão de por que se estabeleceram em um território considerado tão pobre em relação às suas expectativas leva a um confronto de seus ideais com a estrutura de opções oferecida pelas "províncias de Tucumán". Levando em consideração as solicitações apresentadas nesses documentos, fica claro que eles buscavam recursos do rei para garantir uma nova vida nas colônias.
