El presente es un amplio análisis comparativo acerca de la reproducción social de los grupos nor y surandinos entre el 1500 y el 1700. El artículo inquiere acerca de la supervivencia étnica y sultural de los indígenas nor y surandinos aunque se centra mayormente en el caso de los habitantes de la Audiencia de Quito. Para ello se examinan cuestiones teóricas provenientes de la literatura antropológica reciente. Los conceptos de supervivencia cultural y etnogénesis son los indicadores tomados para llegar a una aproximación de la problemática planteada. Esta é uma ampla análise comparativa da reprodução social de grupos andinos do Norte e do Sul entre 1500 e 1700. O artigo examina a sobrevivência étnica e cultural dos povos indígenas andinos do Norte e do Sul, embora se concentre principalmente nos habitantes da Audiência de Quito. Para tanto, são examinadas questões teóricas da literatura antropológica recente.
