In the course of the 18th century, and as the wealth of this new gold deposit was confirmed, the Amazonas-Madeira-Guaporé route was intensely inspected with the double incentive, for the pioneers, of seizing the cattle scattered on the beaches and bushes and of enslaving the numerous ethnic groups of the river basin. The current paper analyzes the intensification of trade in said region, taking into account both the strategies of Luis de Albuquerque and the collapse of the Jesuit missionary order in Moxos and Chiquitos.
