The analysis focuses in how the biographer delimits a double temporary inscription of the texts of his biographee: one, tied to the conjuncture, closely associated with Sarmiento’s journalistic vocation (written modulation of his absorbing “passion for being useful”); another, linked with the perennial, with the eternal, which implies to emphasize the importance that the work of Sarmiento had in the construction of a national spirit. Then, are considered certain precautions from which Lugones proposes to read Sarmiento’s texts –and especially his most famous book: Facundo– so that these could finally be canonized. In addition, among other related matters, the article discusses with those interpretations of the Historia de Sarmiento that insisted on the parallel between biographer and biographee to emphasize not on the similarities but, on the contrary, in the differences between both writers.
