The "Life III" is a metaphrasis on the Theodore' text.             We propose to confront "Life I" and "Life III" focalizing here in the author's voice.             Theodore has an evident and stable presence throughout the work, with theological and moral commentaries and with meta-literary and local details; on the contrary, the metaphrastes reduces his voice to some interventions (mostly in the prologue), which comment about the text and leave out the more personal testimonies of the original author.             We think that the metaphrastes' intention was to place at the forefront the saint and his miracles; and to erase the evident presence of the author and of the witness, in order to put Spyridon (and God) as the preeminent figure of the didactic story. He made then a shorter text (μετρίως πως καὶ ἀμυδρῶς 129: 20) but also more readable to a timeless and less local audience. P. Van den Ven publicó, en 1953, cuatro textos sobre la vida de san Espiridón. La "Vida I" es el texto debido a Teodoro, el obispo de Pafo en Chipre, quien utilizó las mismas fuentes que Leoncio de Neápolis ("Vida II", creemos nosotros) y añadió otras fuentes personales. La "Vida III" es una metáfrasis del texto de Teodoro. Proponemos comparar la Vida I y la Vida III pero focalizando aquí la cuestión de la voz del autor. Teodoro tiene una presencia notoria y consistente a lo largo del texto, con comentarios teológicos y morales pero también con detalles metaliterarios y locales; por el contrario, el metafrasta reduce su voz a algunas intervenciones (sobre todo en el prólogo) que hacen comentarios sobre el texto y omite los testimonios más personales del autor original. Pensamos que la intención del metafrasta ha sido poner en el primer plano al santo y sus milagros y borrar toda presencia notoria del autor y de los testigos, poniendo a Espiridón (y a Dios) como la figura preeminente del relato didáctico.
