By studying "the communitarian" through its institutions, practices and ideologies and including conflict as an inherent part, at least four ways of understanding the community and practicing the communitarian emerged in Mezcala. En el contexto de la revitalización del concepto de “comunidad” asociado a la pertenencia indígena, este texto busca proponer una forma de entender y analizar los espacios comunitarios, a través del análisis del caso de Mezcala, una localidad de Jalisco que en buena parte no entra en los cánones de la comunidad indígena pero está inmersa en un proceso de recomunalización por la defensa de su territorio. Al estudiar “lo comunitario” a través de sus instituciones, prácticas e ideologías e incluir el conflicto como parte inherente, en Mezcala surgieron al menos cuatro formas de entender la comunidad y practicar lo comunitario.
