Several research problems in which different variables and materialities were evaluated are discussed here. The written sources analyzed enhanced the understanding of the relationship among the mining and metallurgical complexes archaeologically recorded, and the identification of people who probably invested and worked there; moreover, were the basis to build a general chronological frame of the exploitations. Meanwhile, the archaeological research approached aspects not sufficiently mentioned in the documentation, like the impact on the landscape, the technology, the scale and other characteristicsof the mining work. A partir de un estudio de caso sobre la minería y la metalurgia de la Puna de Jujuy en el período colonial se ilustra la articulación -los límites, los desafíos y las posibilidades- de diversas estrategias de investigaciónvinculadas especialmente a la historia y la arqueología. Se discuten varias problemáticas de investigación en las que se evaluaron y contrapusieron distintas variables y materialidades. El análisis del registro escrito colaboró en la comprensión de las relaciones entre las instalaciones minero-metalúrgicas registradas arqueológicamente y en la identificación de quienes posiblemente invirtieron y trabajaron allí; además de ser la base para construir un marco cronológico general de las explotaciones. Mientras las investigaciones arqueológicas y arqueométricas avanzaron sobre aspectos poco desarrollados en la documentación, como el impacto en el paisaje y la tecnología, la escala, y las características de las labores. Um estudo de caso sobre mineração e metalurgia na Puna de Jujuy durante o período colonial ilustra a articulação -os limites, desafios e possibilidades- de diversas estratégias de pesquisa, especialmente aquelas vinculadas à história e à arqueologia. Diversos problemas de pesquisa são discutidos, avaliando e comparando diferentes variáveis e materialidades. A análise do registro escrito contribuiu para a compreensão das relações entre as instalações de mineração e metalurgia registradas arqueologicamente e para a identificação daqueles que possivelmente investiram e trabalharam nelas. Também serviu de base para a construção de um quadro cronológico geral para as operações.
