In his Philosophical Writings, however, Novalis claims that his conception of genius is actually the specific result of a renewed polemical engagement with the Critique of Pure Reason. As for the developments presented by Kant in his third critique, Novalis does not mention them in his letters and writings, or indeed make any reference whatever to this text.In the absence of evidence for a direct reading by Novalis, therefore, this paper will attempt to analyse some of the commonalities between the two authors, associating them not with a direct influence of the philosopher on the poet, but with the influence on both of a set of texts forming part of the so-called Platonic revival of the eighteenth century (Beiser, 2003). Thus, the paper will offer an analysis of the doctrine of genius in both authors, not by deriving one from the other but by highlighting the points they have in common and associating them with conceptions from Platonism that could be the basis for these similarities. Dando por sentado el rol decisivo entre los escritores del Primer Romanticismo del concepto kantiano de genio desarrollado en La crítica del discernimiento, muchos autores suelen considerar el desarrollo de la idea de genio en Novalis como un derivado de este concepto kantiano. Sin embargo, en los fragmentos de su Obra Filosófica, Novalis afirma que su concepción de genio se debe específicamente, en cambio, a un renovado posicionamiento polémico frente a la Crítica de la razón pura. En cuanto a los desarrollos planteados por Kant en su tercera crítica, Novalis no solo no los menciona entre sus cartas y escritos, sino que tampoco hace alusión alguna a este texto.Por lo tanto, ante la falta de evidencia de una lectura directa por parte de Novalis, en este trabajo intentaremos analizar algunas de las coincidencias entre ambos autores asociándolas, no a una influencia directa del filósofo sobre el poeta, sino a la influencia sobre ambos de un conjunto de textos que participan del así llamado revival platónico del Siglo XVIII (Beiser, 2003).
