In the context of this diagnosis, literature is left with the dual task of resisting and disappearing. This disappearance was in fact already inscribed in the very nature of language: for Flaubert, language has a limited but intermittent life, which, through the work of style, can be projected forward. Thus, the true writer is the one who makes language last by finding in it the latencies that might become apparent in later times: in other words, the authentic work of art is always, inevitably, of the future. This paper sets out to describe one of the ways in which Flaubert constructs this future life of the literary work (and of language) by employing the perished materials of the contemporary. In this sense, we suggest that the main strategy developed by Flaubert during the 1870s is that of writing as graffiti. In literary terms, the result of this strategy will be the unfinished novel Bouvard et Pécuchet. Luego de la guerra franco-prusiana y los sucesos de la Comuna de París, Flaubert, siempre suspicaz hacia toda concepción progresista de la historia, ve definitivamente confirmada su visión del desarrollo humano como un proceso involutivo de uniformización, mercantilización y tecnificación del mundo. En el marco de ese diagnóstico, a la literatura solo le queda la doble tarea simultánea de resistir y desaparecer. Esa desaparición estaba en realidad ya inscrita en la propia naturaleza del lenguaje: en efecto, la lengua posee para Flaubert una vida limitada pero intermitente, que, mediante el trabajo del estilo, puede proyectarse hacia adelante. Así, el verdadero escritor es aquél que hace durar la lengua al encontrar en ella las latencias que podrían volverse patentes en tiempos posteriores: dicho de otro modo, la obra de arte auténtica es siempre, inevitablemente, del futuro. Este trabajo se propone describir uno de losmodos en que Flaubert construye esa vida futura de la obra (y del lenguaje) empleando los materiales perimidos de lo contemporáneo. En este sentido, sugerimos que la estrategia principal desarrollada por Flaubert durante el decenio de 1870 es la de la escritura como graffiti.
