This marginality has minimized the richness of the processes generated in this colonial region, particularly those referring to the role of the indigenous, whom traditional historiography quickly makes “disappear” from the historical scene. Consequently, we propose a critical reflection of the analyzed sources  that avoids both “ignoring” the indigenous person and labeling him as “enemy,” because it is a border area. El trabajo se focaliza en el indígena como actor relevante y significativo en la conformación de una sociedad asentada en un área marginal del Virreinato del Perú, como es Santa Fe la Vieja y su jurisdicción durante los siglos XVI y XVII. Dicha marginalidad ha minimizado la riqueza de los procesos generados en esta región colonial, particularmente aquellos referidos al rol del indígena, a quien la historiografía tradicional hace “desaparecer” rápidamente de la escena histórica. En consecuencia, proponemos una reflexión crítica de la documentación consultada que evite tanto “ignorar” al indígena como ponerle el rótulo de “enemigo”, por tratarse de un área de frontera. Este trabalho enfoca os povos indígenas como atores relevantes e significativos na formação de uma sociedade estabelecida em uma área marginal do Vice-Reino do Peru, como Santa Fé la Vieja e sua jurisdição, durante os séculos XVI e XVII. Essa marginalização minimizou a riqueza dos processos gerados nessa região colonial, particularmente aqueles relacionados ao papel dos povos indígenas, que a historiografia tradicional rapidamente "desaparece" do cenário histórico.
