Recently, under the presidency of Mauricio Macri (2015-2019), GNA security operations in urban conflict zones continued to play a prominent role, but Macri´s government discourse focusing on «the fight against drug trafficking» elevated security matters at a national level. Hence, the need to strengthen «hot borders» for their protection. In this article, we will focus on that very security policy making process of Mauricio Marcri (2015-2019)´s government, through which an emphasis was put on «hot borders» as security sectors for «drug trafficking» treatment considered as a national problem. Special attention will be given to a north Argentine frontier that borders Brazil. The methodology used was primarily qualitative, interviews were conducted with civil servants and also with GNA personnel, which were complemented with the analysis of decrees and related regulations

Si bien la GNA surge con la finalidad de proteger el límite internacional de las fronteras nacionales, cuya función primordial ha estado relacionada con delitos federales y problemáticas de alta conflictividad, desde la década de 2000 se le añadió a sus actividades centrales, el policiamiento en «barrios urbanos conflictivos». Recientemente, bajo la presidencia de Mauricio Macri (2015-2019), los operativos de seguridad de GNA en zonas urbanas de conflicto siguieron ocupando un lugar destacado, pero, su discurso gubernamental al focalizar en la «lucha contra el narcotráfico», elevó el problema de la seguridad a un plano nacional. De aquí, la necesidad de fortalecer las «fronteras calientes» para su protección. En este artículo focalizaremos en este proceso de gestión de la seguridad del gobierno de Mauricio Marcri (2015-2019), a través del cual se puso énfasis en las «fronteras» como sector securitario para el tratamiento del «narcotráfico» como problema nacional. Por ello, principal atención se le dará a una frontera del norte argentino que limita con Brasil y al rol en las tareas de seguridad que desempeña la GNA. La metodología utilizada fue primordialmente de carácter cualitativo.
