Sumario:The political participation of young people in the field of secondary education in Argentina is an issue that has progressively occupied, in recent decades, a greater centrality within specialized production. This growing relevance is linked to the new meanings that the construction process of "being a citizen" at school was acquiring in recent times, due to the democratization of the educational space and the regulatory framework that recognizes and states the rights of young people, of which, many of them materialize in the school environment. However, as is known, institutionalized secondary education in Argentina, despite its foundation and democratic spirit, develops, in fact, through fragmented educational configurations, crossed by inequality. Taking this into account, in this article we try to reflect on the first experiences of political participation of young people in secondary schools in the province of Catamarca. For this we have empirical material collected from the development of focus groups with members of student centers of secondary schools in the capital of Catamarca and interviews with directors of those same schools.
