The thematics broached by Vela are usually tackled by the intellectuals talking about the conflict. Nevertheless, Vela’s tone and arguments are rather radical. Through his vision of Germany, his way of describing and interpreting the war, and his thoughts regarding its consequences on a national scale as well as on a continental scale, Pablo Hannibal Vela’s articles are original sources which lead to thinking about the different perceptions of the conflict within the Latin-American elites. A través de la sección “Crónica extranjera”, redactada por Pablo Hannibal Vela en la revista La Ilustración publicada en Guayaquil a partir del año 1917, este artículo propone analizar lo representativo y lo singular de la mirada de este intelectual ecuatoriano, en comparación con los otros artículos de análisis de la guerra que circulan en Ecuador y en América latina durante la Gran Guerra. Los temas planteados por Vela son comúnmente abordados por los intelectuales que hablan del conflicto, sin embargo, su tono y sus argumentos son bastante radicales.
