This article focuses on the characteristics that the participation of non-academic actors has within knowledge production processes in interaction. The guiding question aims to identify the roles non-academic actors acquire when they engage in knowledge processes with academic actors. For this purpose, a set of projects funded by the Research Program Oriented to Social Inclusion of the University of the Republic (Uruguay) is taken as an empirical reference. The participation of non-academic actors is examined on the basis of three specific dimensions (profiles, communication flow, and intervention) that contribute to the construction of knowledge processes in a gradient from collaboration to co-production. In terms of ideal types, collaboration and co-production simplify the heterogeneity of possible relationships between “experts and laymen” when situated knowledge agendas are fostered. La producción de conocimiento en interacción entre diversos actores recoge una trayectoria de compromiso social de las universidades públicas latinoamericanas. Este artículo se centra en las características que adquiere la participación de actores no académicos en procesos de producción de conocimiento en interacción. La pregunta que lo orienta apunta a identificar qué roles adquieren los actores no académicos cuando se involucran en procesos de conocimiento con actores académicos. Para ello, se toma como referencia empírica un conjunto de proyectos financiados por el Programa de Investigación Orientado a la Inclusión Social de la Universidad de la República (Uruguay). Se examina la participación de actores no académicos a partir de tres dimensiones concretas (perfiles, flujo de comunicación e intervención) que aportan a la construcción de procesos de conocimiento en un gradiente que va desde la colaboración a la coproducción.
