We are presenting results of an ethnographic study conducted since 2009, with students of high grades of a rural elementary school located 4 km from San Ignacio city. Seeing students’ progress along these five years, we studied also our fieldwork to a secondary agrarian school, and other institutions where these graduates usually attend. We also visited families` farms and made interviews with local referents, because this research is focused in formative experience in agrarian tasks, and their relations with formal agrarian education.  Este artículo analiza la obligatoriedad de la escuela secundaria, sancionada en Argentina en el año 2006, considerando las características que ha asumido en los contextos rurales del sudoeste de la Provincia de Misiones. Analizaremos cómo la posibilidad de acceder al nivel medio, la elección de la escuela secundaria en sus distintas orientaciones y la finalización los estudios, se articula con la formación en el trabajo rural desde las proyecciones de futuro urbano y/o rural de adultos y jóvenes. Presentamos resultados de un trabajo etnográfico iniciado en 2009 con los alumnos de grados superiores de una escuela primaria rural localizada a 4 km de la ciudad de San Ignacio. Acompañando el progreso de los egresados en estos cinco años, ampliamos el trabajo de campo a una escuela secundaria agrícola, así como a otros establecimientos de educación media de la zona.
