The paper begins with a brief presentation of the philosophical principles of this theory. After that, these principles are related with the theses about the empire of August, that Vico assert in two works: The Universal Right (1719-1722) and the Principles of a new science about the common nature of nations (1744). The conclusion is that for Vico’s cyclical conception of history, the imperator August has a contemporary relevance as paradigm of modern Europeans monarchies of eighteen century.
