In this way, the author argues for the integration of this different trends in librarianship, but without missing our social responsibility. El presente artículo analiza críticamente las relaciones entre bibliotecología y responsabilidad social. En primera instancia se estudia el impacto de las tecnologías de la información en la profesión; Juego se reflexiona sobre el debate existente entre los bibliotecarios que se inclinan hacia una orientación "pragmática" y aquellos que defienden la responsabilidad social de nuestra actividad: finalmente se analiza la importancia de la profesión como una ciencia social científica e interdisciplinaria.
