Análisis de los principales rasgos de los cambios verificados en las aproximaciones actuales de la historia del libro. Se subraya la importancia adoptada por la lectura y la recepción de los textos como una superación de las perspectivas centradas en la descripción y en los datos cuantitativos. La obra de Roger Chartier es considerada como significativa en este cambio, y se emplean sus aportes para sistematizar las aproximaciones implicadas en la historia cultural concerniente a los materiales impresos.
