This article aims to analyze travel patterns in a disaggregated way, observing the characteristics of the travels made by men and women. As a study object was chosen the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region and using the data created through the Origin-Destination surveys conducted in 2003. Descriptive statistics and combination of the variables sex and position in family structure were used in order to better describe gender in daily transportation. Results point to a distinct travel pattern: men tend to travel more, cover bigger distances and spend more time traveling than women. However, women tend to have a sustainable behavior, as they rely more on transit and non-motorized transport. When it comes to transport planning, the knowledge of the needs and habits of its groups of focus helps to define specific policies, also well as to apply public resources in a rational way in order to build an equally accessible and fair city for its citizens. |

Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar padrões de viagem de forma desagregada, observando as características dos deslocamentos de homens e mulheres. A Região Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro (RMRJ) foi escolhida como objeto de estudo, sendo utilizados dados de deslocamentos provindos da pesquisa origem destino realizada em 2003. A metodologia desenvolvida baseou-se em análises descritivas das variáveis de interesse e do cruzamento dos dados de sexo e situação familiar. Os resultados apontam para um padrão de deslocamento distinto: homens com número de viagens, duração e distância de deslocamento com magnitudes superiores em relação às mulheres. Entretanto, quando analisado o modo de transporte, elas possuem o que pode ser chamado de um comportamento mais sustentável, por dependerem mais fortemente do transporte coletivo e ativo em suas viagens. Para o planejamento de transporte, o conhecimento do comportamento e das necessidades dos grupos de interesse pode auxiliar no momento de definição de políticas específicas e no emprego racional dos recursos públicos a fim de construir uma cidade igualmente acessível e justa para todos seus habitantes.
