Sumario:This article proposes an approach to a set of problems related to the field of Sound Art, understanding it as a field that is currently under construction and that generates deep ruptures in relation to the more consolidated forms of the aural arts, defining new modalities of production and location of the works as well as new and challenging spectatorial conditions. To this end, we start from a general problematization of its status, focusing on the heterogeneity and complexity of the field, as well as the diversity of its practices and the discourses that are formulated about them. On the other hand, the main traditions that define the dominant orientations within the field are circumscribed, emphasizing their most notable differences. From there, a more specific exploration of various dimensions of the phenomenon under study is proposed, examining its main qualities from a semiotic perspective, addressing the basic conditions in which the circulation of meaning unfolds and the ways in which a new aurality emerges. The conclusion is about the way in which the field is building its own historical and aesthetic accounts.
