Sumario:This article investigates the changes in academic and journalistic approaches to funk carioca in the course of the first three decades of bibliographic productions on this musical genre (1980-2000). The article is divided into three sections that correspond to the three decades analyzed, which makes it possible to examine problems inherent to the approach of funk carioca as a musical genre arising from a specific music scene, the funk dance and the proposition of its historiography. The work methodology started from exploratory bibliographic research in specific databases such as the Sucupira Platform in order to compose the first phase, literature review, doctoral research on the creative processes of a set of subjects that made up the first decade of development of the project. funk carioca. The results of this article point to the consolidation of a specific field of studies about funk carioca and the expansion of its scope from a local level (Rio de Janeiro) to a national level (Brazil).
