What can the historian do so that the past can be valued as an orientation for practical life? The article starts from the assumption that the Didactics of History is an area of historical science that proposes the organization of this reflection. The title of the text is the reproduction of a question experienced in the classroom by almost all teachers in this discipline. El siguiente texto defiende, a través de una reflexión teórica, la relevancia de la ciencia como guía para las acciones en el presente y método para la construcción del conocimiento. ¿Qué puede hacer el historiador para que el pasado pueda ser valorado como orientación para la vida práctica? El artículo parte del supuesto de que la Didáctica de la Historia es un área de la ciencia histórica que propone la organización de esta reflexión. El título del texto es la reproducción de una pregunta experimentada en el aula por casi todos los docentes en esta disciplina.
