In this article I will review the speeches and stories that simplify a history of the train in Argentina based on the way some school manuals deal with the subject. Then I will expose the lines of research that contribute to study the world of railway work and privilege the social dynamics existing in local spaces. Thirdly, I will recover a teaching and intervention experience in the community carried out in the city of San Cristobal, Santa Fe province, which presents an interesting approach to the railway issue that favors the problematization and critical thinking of students. Como parte de intereses personales por estudiar el mundo del trabajo ferroviario y con la inquietud de articular mis investigaciones con mi tarea docente me propongo discutir las periodizaciones que sobre la llamada “historia del sistema ferroviario argentino” aparecen en las escuelas secundarias de la provincia de Santa Fe en las que trabajo. En este artículo revisaré los discursos y relatos que simplifican una historia del tren en la Argentina a partir de la forma en que algunos manuales escolares tratan el tema. Luego expondré las líneas de investigación que contribuyen a estudiar el mundo del trabajo ferroviario y privilegian las dinámicas sociales existentes en los espacios locales. En tercer lugar, recuperaré una experiencia docente y de intervención en la comunidad llevada a cabo en la ciudad de San Cristóbal, provincia de Santa Fe, que presenta un interesante abordaje del tema ferroviario que favorece a la problematización y el pensamiento crítico de los estudiantes.
