This Program is a shared effort of the Department of Introduction to Veterinary Medicine Program and the Educational Guidance Service (Servicio de Orientación Educativa, SOE). The objective of the Program is to accompany students to favor not only their admission into higher education, but also to provide spaces to acquire the necessary cognitive skills, so as to help them in their learning process. A survey was applied to 126 students from the 2018 cohort —all of them participated in the Mentoring Program and were freshmen students. Taking into account the results, the Mentoring Program is recommended by 93% of the tutors due to its effectiveness in the university admission processes. The program is carried out by advanced students, who, after a selection and training process, carry out the guidance task. In addition, tutors recognize the benefits of offering companionship to others in order to foster their institutional permanence, and they also notice the significant changes observed in them after participating in the program. El propósito del presente trabajo es visibilizar el impacto del programa de tutorías en el acompañamiento estudiantil al ingreso universitario. En la labor profesional realizada desde la cátedra de Introducción a la Veterinaria y el Servicio de Orientación Educativa (SOE) de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias emergen constantes preocupaciones y desafíos para propiciar la construcción continua de alternativas viables que permitan a los estudiantes apropiarse de los conocimientos y habilidades que son necesarias para alcanzar el éxito académico. Teniendo en cuenta los resultados se observa que el programa de tutorías es recomendado por el 98% de los tutorados, debido a que el mismo se consolida como favorecedor de los procesos de afiliación al ámbito universitario. La novedad del programa consiste en que es llevado a cabo por estudiantes avanzados, quienes luego de un proceso de selección y capacitación realizan la tarea orientativa. Además, los tutores reconocen los beneficios del acompañamiento a otros en su permanencia institucional, observándose un antes y después en la participación llevada a cabo.
