The objective is to highlight the central issues and main contributions made by research on police structures, their recent transformations, and the challenges arising from the impact of the growing integration of women. The article is organized into four axes emerging from the bibliographic analysis: the characteristics of the processes of incorporation of women into the police force; discussions on police work and gender; the impact on women's professional careers; and the place of sexuality, workplace harassment, and sexual violence in the police work environment. The conclusions are drawn from two perspectives. The first, at the bibliographic level, highlights the limited regional dialogue and exchange that impedes feedback on the studies produced. The second, at the conceptual level, indicates agreement regarding the complexity and contradictions in the processes of incorporating women into policing. In particular, the novel nature of this phenomenon disrupts more traditional gender relations and coexists simultaneously with strategies to reaffirm those same values based on male dominance within police institutions. Este artículo realiza una revisión y sistematización de los estudios sociales sobre género y policía en América Latina. El objetivo es señalar las problemáticas centrales y principales aportes realizados por las investigaciones acerca de las estructuras policiales, sus transformaciones recientes y los desafíos derivados del impacto de la creciente integración de las mujeres. El artículo se organiza en cuatro ejes ejes emergentes del análisis bibliográfico: las características de los procesos de incorporación de las mujeres en las policías; las discusiones sobre trabajo policial y género; la afectación de las carreras profesionales de las mujeres; y el lugar de la sexualidad, el acoso laboral y la violencia sexual en el entorno laboral policial. Las conclusiones toman dos direcciones. La primera, de nivel bibliográfico, señala el escaso diálogo e intercambio regional que impide la retroalimentación de los estudios producidos.  La segunda, de nivel conceptual, indica el acuerdo acerca de la complejidad y contradicción en los procesos de incorporación de mujeres a las actividades policiales. En particular, el carácter novedoso de este fenómeno que trastoca las relaciones de género más tradicionales y convive, simultáneamente, con estrategias de reafirmación de esos mismos valores asentados en el dominio masculino al interior de las instituciones policiales.
