First, it describes the evolution of the curriculum from the university's founding in 1957 to the present. Second, it explores postgraduate students’ evaluations of the academic program and the language representations they construct. Drawing on a glottopolitical approach and using a questionnaire, the research investigates their motivations, perceptions, and evaluations. The responses reveal three main representations of Spanish: as a useful language for work, as a language of cultural prestige, and as a global language. While students value Spanish for its professional potential, they express a critical view of the curriculum, teaching methods, and study conditions. They point to a theoretical focus in instruction, the need for more oral practice, lack of resources and bibliography, and limited job opportunities. The study concludes that students’ representations of Spanish contrast with the current limitations they perceive, and it underscores the need to incorporate their perspectives in order to improve training and strengthen language instruction. Este estudio analiza la enseñanza del español en el Departamento de Lenguas Románicas de la Facultad de Letras y Ciencias Humanas de la Universidad Cheikh Anta Diop (Dakar, Senegal). En primer lugar, se describe la evolución de los currículos desde la creación de la Universidad en 1957 hasta la actualidad. En segundo lugar, se abordan las evaluaciones que estudiantes de posgrado realizan del programa académico, así como las representaciones sobre el lenguaje que construyen. A partir de un enfoque glotopolítico y mediante un cuestionario se indaga en sus motivaciones, percepciones y evaluaciones. Las respuestas muestran tres principales representaciones sobre el español: como lengua útil para el trabajo, como lengua de prestigio cultural y como lengua global. Si bien los estudiantes valoran el español por su proyección profesional, hay una mirada crítica hacia aspectos del currículo, la metodología y las condiciones de estudio. Señalan una enseñanza centrada en lo teórico, la necesidad de aumentar las prácticas orales, carencias en recursos y bibliografía y pocas oportunidades laborales. El trabajo concluye que las representaciones sobre el español contrastan con las limitaciones actuales percibidas por el alumnado y destaca la necesidad de incorporar sus voces con miras a mejorar la formación y consolidar la enseñanza.
