Sumario:This paper examines the educational situation in Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting the low completion rate of secondary education and deficient performance in international tests —such as Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)—. It points out the need to address deficiencies in basic competencies related to reasoning and reading, as well as to consider structural conditions of inequality and access to basic services. Teacher training is identified as a crucial aspect, highlighting the lack of connection with the demands of the Latin American reality. The concept of a bibliosphere is proposed, a space of education that integrates elements of science, geography, and library science. It is argued that this bibliosphere could be constructed through public policies that promote the integration of science, secondary education, and reading processes, with the aim of improving teacher training and promoting access to information and culture.
