It points out the need to address deficiencies in basic competencies related to reasoning and reading, as well as to consider structural conditions of inequality and access to basic services. Teacher training is identified as a crucial aspect, highlighting the lack of connection with the demands of the Latin American reality. The concept of a bibliosphere is proposed, a space of education that integrates elements of science, geography, and library science. It is argued that this bibliosphere could be constructed through public policies that promote the integration of science, secondary education, and reading processes, with the aim of improving teacher training and promoting access to information and culture. Este artigo analisa a situação educacional na América Latina e no Caribe, destacando a baixa taxa de conclusão do ensino médio e o desempenho deficiente em testes internacionais —como o Programa Internacional de Avaliação de Estudantes (PISA)—. Aponta a necessidade de abordar deficiências em competências básicas relacionadas ao raciocínio e à leitura, bem como considerar condições estruturais de desigualdade e acesso a serviços básicos. A formação de professores é identificada como um aspecto crucial, destacando a falta de conexão com as demandas da realidade latino–americana. Propõe–se o conceito de uma bibliosfera, um espaço de educação que integra elementos de ciências, geografia e biblioteconomia. Argumenta–se que essa bibliosfera poderia ser construída por meio de políticas públicas que promovam a integração de ciências, ensino médio e processos de leitura, com o objetivo de melhorar a formação de professores e promover o acesso à informação e à cultura. El artículo examina la situación educativa en América Latina y el Caribe, destacando la baja tasa de finalización de la educación secundaria y el bajo rendimiento en pruebas internacionales —como las del Programa para la Evaluación Internacional de Estudiantes (PISA)—. Se señala la necesidad de abordar las deficiencias en competencias básicas, relacionadas con el razonamiento y la lectura, además de considerar las condiciones estructurales de desigualdad y acceso a servicios básicos. La formación de maestros/as se identifica como un aspecto crucial, destacando la falta de conexión con las demandas de la realidad latinoamericana. Se propone la idea de una bibliosfera, un espacio de formación que integre elementos de la ciencia, la geografía y la bibliotecología. Se argumenta que esta bibliosfera podría construirse desde políticas públicas que promuevan la integración de la ciencia, la educación secundaria y los procesos de lectura, con el objetivo de mejorar la formación de maestros/as y promover el acceso a la información y la cultura.
