Sumario:This study explored the perceptions of 159 faculty members from 17 faculties of agricultural sciences in Argentina regarding approaches to rural extension. It should be noted that the sample is not representative of the entire population of faculty members in this field, which limits the generalizability of the findings. Using an online questionnaire with a Likert scale and subsequent factor analysis, two main components were identified: the "dialogical approach," which emphasizes participation and co-construction of knowledge with producers, and the "transferist approach," focused on the transfer of technologies from the university. While the results showed a high overall valuation of the dialogical approach, cluster analysis revealed the existence of two groups of faculty members: one that prioritizes the dialogical approach and another that values both approaches, challenging the traditional view that considers them mutually exclusive. This latter group, which integrates elements of both approaches, raises questions about how these perspectives are understood and implemented in practice.
