description Since the end of the 20th century, there has been a revaluation and redefinition of the figure of José Ignacio «Chango» Rodríguez, a cordoban composer and performer. Although many of his works have circulated a lot in the repertoire of folkloric performers throughout the country, the same does not happen with his name inside and outside the Argentine territory. Given this evidence, I research how that process has been. For this reason, I study the context in which he developed his artistic activity, I analyze his compositional work and interpretations and some of the discursive strategies used by the enunciator that allow to explain how this artist got a prominent place within the cordoban folklore historical background. The central work hypotheses postulate that: - El «Chango» Rodríguez managed to introduce a difference within cordoban folklore that was reflected in some of the lyrics of his creations. They do not refer to the rural and creole environment of the folklore of his time, but to the life of the capital city of the province. -To a large extent, his success has to do with having capitalized the attributed and self-perceived identity traits of the idiosyncrasy of Cordoba city: the tune, the dialect and the nightlife associated with alcohol consumption and the bohemia. That is why, I admit in this artist an antecedent of what it is now known as «cordobesismo», a political idiology that affirms the most conservative side of the provincial politics. - I believe that the opinion of «Chango» Rodríguez’s work is strongly related to subjective and emotional aspects that have little to do with the literary or musical quality of his work.

Desde fines del siglo XX, se ha producido una revalorización y resignificación de la figura de José Ignacio «Chango» Rodríguez, compositor e intérprete cordobés. Si bien muchas de sus obras han circulado y circulan bastante en el repertorio de intérpretes folklóricos de todo el país, no sucede lo mismo con su nombre dentro y fuera del territorio argentino. Ante esta evidencia, reflexiono acerca de cómo ha sido ese proceso. Para ello, abordo el estudio del contexto en el que desarrolló su actividad artística, el análisis de su obra compositiva e interpretaciones y algunas de las estrategias discursivas empleadas por el enunciador que permiten explicar cómo este artista llegó a posicionarse en un lugar destacado dentro del canon de folklore cordobés. Las hipótesis centrales del trabajo postulan que: - El «Chango» Rodríguez logró introducir una diferencia dentro del folklore cordobés que se plasmó en algunas de las letras de sus creaciones. Ellas no se refieren al ambiente rural y criollo del folklore de su época sino a la vida de la ciudad capital de la provincia. - En gran medida, su éxito tiene que ver con haber capitalizado los rasgos identitarios atribuidos y autopercibidos de la idiosincrasia del cordobés capitalino: la tonada, el humor y la vida nocturna asociada al consumo de alcohol y la bohemia. En ese sentido, reconozco en este artista un antecedente de lo que hoy se conoce como «cordobesismo», espacio político que reafirma el lado más conservador de la política provincial.  - Estimo que la valoración de la obra del «Chango» Rodríguez está atravesada fuertemente por aspectos subjetivos y emotivos que poco tienen que ver con la calidad literaria o musical de su obra.
