| Sumario: | The following work is a reconstruction and historical interpretation of the actions and the role developed by the women of the Sociedad de Beneficencia (SB) in the context of Santiago towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. For that, I will make a brief recovery on the context of emergence and the functions attributed to the SB, as part of the first expressions of institutionalized social assistance, within the framework of the modernization of the provincial State. Based on a comparative analysis of studies on the SB carried out at the regional level, I will discuss the findings of the Santiago SB with the experiences of Tucumán, Jujuy and the Buenos Aires SB as the first of the expressions founded in Argentina |
