For that, I will make a brief recovery on the context of emergence and the functions attributed to the SB, as part of the first expressions of institutionalized social assistance, within the framework of the modernization of the provincial State. Based on a comparative analysis of studies on the SB carried out at the regional level, I will discuss the findings of the Santiago SB with the experiences of Tucumán, Jujuy and the Buenos Aires SB as the first of the expressions founded in Argentina El siguiente trabajo es una reconstrucción e interpretación histórica del accionar y el papel desarrollado por las mujeres de la Sociedad de Beneficencia (SB) en el contexto santiagueño hacia finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. Para eso, haré una recuperación breve sobre el contexto de surgimiento y las funciones atribuidas a la SB, como parte de las primeras expresiones de asistencia social institucionalizada, en el marco de la modernización del Estado provincial. A partir de un análisis comparativo de estudios sobre la SB realizados a nivel regional, haré dialogar hallazgos de la SB santiagueña con las experiencias de Tucumán, Jujuy y la SB de Buenos Aires como la primera de las expresiones fundada en la Argentina.
