These reflections are product of an investigation and postgraduate work process which aimed to identify what social-historic forces intervened in the profession´s consolidation: that is to say, what impacts had the social, politics, economical and cultural contradictory tensions of that time -between the years 1920-1955-, and what were the thinking bases which influenced in the organization of the first formation´s spaces and that, at the same time, configured the way of thinking the intervention from the institutions in which this new professionals were set in. For that, the analysis of that time´s documents and an exhaustive revision of the medical hygienists´ influence were essential, recognising the tensions and disputes related to how to organize the social public assistance in institutional and professional terms.  La propuesta de este trabajo es presentar un análisis sobre los fundamentos del desarrollo del campo profesional en los orígenes del Trabajo Social en Argentina, particularmente tomando como referencia instituciones y debates presentes en la Capital Federal y su zona geográfica de influencia más próxima localizada en la provincia de Buenos Aires.   Estas reflexiones son producto de un proceso de investigación y formación de posgrado que se orientó a desentrañar qué fuerzas socio-históricas intervinieron en la consolidación de la profesión: es decir, qué impactos tuvieron en este proceso las tensiones contradictorias del campo social, político, económico y cultural de la época -entre los años 1920-1955-, y cuáles fueron las matrices de pensamiento que influyeron en la organización de los primeros espacios de formación y que al mismo tiempo configuraron la forma de pensar la intervención desde las instituciones en las que se insertaron estos recientes  profesionales. Por ello, fue central el análisis de documentos de la época y una exhaustiva revisión sobre la influencia de los médicos higienistas, reconociendo las tensiones y disputas en relación a cómo organizar la asistencia social pública en términos institucionales y profesionales.
