In particular, we are trying to understand whether it is fair to attach conditions to social help, which is a new trait in the logic of the Welfare State. We will discuss four of the most important issues of this new policy: rights, paternalism, the concept of good, and the principle of reciprocity. Resumen: el trabajo propone una reflexión sobre el giro que ha dado la asistencia estatal a partir de los años 80s en relación con problemas asociados al desempleo, y la pobreza y exclusión. Concretamente, se trata de ver qué hay de injusto en las condicionalidades, rasgo novedoso en la lógica del Estado de Bienestar. Se discuten cuatro de los aspectos más controvertidos de esta novedosa modalidad: derechos, paternalismo, concepción particular del bien y principio de reciprocidad.
