The purpose of the article is to discuss the implications of these transformations for the Brazilian federative regime. The argument is that the ultra-liberal inflection has altered key elements of the Brazilian federal system, thus engendering a new federative dynamic, distinct from the one that has prevailed since the 1988 Constitution. A sociedade brasileira vivencia atualmente um novo ciclo histórico desafiador, deflagrado na segunda metade da década passada, cuja característica mais relevante é a retomada da agenda de reformas neoliberais dos anos 1990 em bases ainda mais amplas e sistêmicas, conformando o que tem sido denominado de inflexão ultraliberal – conceito que faz referência ao sentido do processo (inflexão) e, ao mesmo tempo, ao seu conteúdo (ultraliberal). O objetivo do artigo é discutir as implicações dessas transformações para o regime federativo do país. O argumento principal é que a inflexão ultraliberal, a partir de 2015, tem alterado elementos-chave do sistema federal brasileiro, engendrando, com isso, uma nova dinâmica federativa, bastante distinta daquela que prevaleceu desde a Constituição de 1988.
