Yupanki was one of the first operas with an indigenous theme to be staged in our country. From the heuristic and critical stage of the historical method, this work allows us to approach the beginnings of the indigenist theme in Argentine opera and to contextualise it culturally. The printed libretto, recently located, is a fundamental source of knowledge. We analyze the mediations of the libretto from the legend that gave rise to it to its translation into Italian. We give an account of the results obtained from an initial comparison of the available sources in order to contribute to a subsequent analysis that will bring us closer to Arturo Berutti's compositional style. A partir del estudio de las fuentes verbales y musicales disponibles y dispersas en distintos repositorios, ofrecemos la actualización del estado de conocimiento de Yupanki (1899), ópera en tres actos con música de Arturo Berutti y libreto de Enrique Rodríguez Larreta con traducción al italiano de Giuseppe Tarnassi. Yupanki fue una de las primeras óperas de temática indigenista que se llevó a escena en nuestro país. Desde la etapa heurística y crítica del método histórico, este trabajo permite acercarnos a los albores de la temática indigenista en la ópera argentina y contextualizarla culturalmente. El libreto impreso, recientemente localizado, se constituye en fuente de conocimiento fundamental. Analizamos las mediaciones del libreto desde la leyenda que le dio origen hasta su traducción al italiano. Damos cuenta de los resultados obtenidos de una primera confrontación de las fuentes disponibles para aportar a un posterior análisis que nos aproxime al estilo compositivo de Arturo Berutti.
