As a result, the objective of the article is to make visible the municipal historical management of the drinking water service in San Justo, which is four decades old. The peculiarity in the fact is that San Justo is one of the few provincial towns that has managed the service for its own municipality, while other towns in the province have another mode of management through “Aguas Santafesinas SA”, cooperatives or communes. Through interviews with local authorities, laboratory consultations, information gathering and on-site visits, it is possible to describe the local municipal service and thus identify the needs for improvement and the challenges facing its management. Thinking about progress towards its sustainability, in a context where population growth puts increasing pressure on the service and on the resource, the competent local authority must institute substantial changes in water management. Para avanzar hacia un desarrollo urbano sostenible en las ciudades, la gestión del agua potable resulta indispensable. A raíz de ello, el objetivo del artículo consiste en visibilizar la gestión histórica municipal del servicio de agua potable en San Justo que posee cuatro décadas de antigüedad. La particularidad radica en que San Justo es una de las pocas localidades provinciales que ha gestionado el servicio por su propio municipio, mientras que otras localidades de la provincia poseen otro modo de gestión mediante “Aguas Santafesinas SA”, cooperativas o comunas. Por medio de entrevistas hacia autoridades locales, consultas a laboratorios, recopilación de información y visitas in situ, se logra describir el servicio municipal local e identificar así las necesidades de mejora y los retos que enfrenta su gestión. Pensando en el avance hacia su sostenibilidad, en un contexto donde el aumento de la población local ejerce cada vez mayor presión sobre el servicio y sobre el recurso, la autoridad local competente deberá instituir cambios sustanciales en la gestión hídrica.
