The choice of the city is not random: it is the place where she spent his first five years when his parents went into exile in the seventies. The narrative concentrates on that period of permanence in the city that constitutes a sort of escape, but also a return. An escape from the responsibilities and daily life that awaits in Buenos Aires, but also an impossible return to the space of the childhood. Displacement becomes a form of access to the understanding of an idealizing power associated with the city of its childhood memory. A «fairy tale» in the center of intimacy that becomes a fictional force to rethink the home and the self. The narrator will account for the strageness of others in a narrative passage that presents itself as a swing from fear to perplexity. La narradora y protagonista de La habitación alemana (2017) de Carla Maliandi viaja a la ciudad alemana de Heidelberg con el propósito de alejarse de los conflictos de su vida en Buenos Aires. La elección de esa ciudad no es azarosa: es el lugar donde pasó sus primeros cinco años de vida cuando sus padres se exiliaron en los años setenta. La narración se concentra en ese período de permanencia en la ciudad que constituye una suerte de fuga, pero también de retorno: un escape respecto de las responsabilidades y de la vida cotidiana que la aguarda en Buenos Aires, pero también un regreso imposible al espacio de la infancia. El desplazamiento se vuelve una forma de acceso a la comprensión de una potencia idealizante asociada a esa ciudad de su recuerdo infantil. Un «cuento de hadas» en el centro de la intimidad que se vuelve fuerza ficcional para repensar el hogar y lo propio. La narradora dará cuenta de la extranjería de los otros en un pasaje narrativo que se presenta como una oscilación del miedo hacia la perplejidad.
