In this study, we aim to briefly reconstruct the incorporation of the research function in Argentine universities and deeply analyze the institutional profiles resulting from their historical evolution in three cases: the National Universities of Cuyo, San Juan, and San Martín. We will comparatively analyze the institutional structure, tools, and resource allocation available for promoting research activities in relation to the national university landscape. The data used come from three "bottom-up" studies on the mentioned institutions conducted within the framework of CECIC, and three databases: a) a primary survey we conducted in 2021 on research spaces in all national universities in the country; b) systematization of an information matrix up to 2020 on researchers affiliated with CONICET; and c) a database of categorized professors in the Program for Incentives to Teacher-Researchers nationwide - the only research stimulation program for professors at national universities in the country - based on the latest call finalized in 2019. The institutional models resulting from the historical link established by universities between teaching and research reveal profound heterogeneity and multi-scalarity in the national university system.

En las universidades argentinas la función de enseñanza ha estado presente desde sus orígenes; sin embargo, otras funciones que hoy son sustantivas se han ido incorporado a lo largo del tiempo de manera diferenciada impactando en los modos de estimularlas y desarrollarlas. En este trabajo nos proponemos reconstruir brevemente la incorporación de la función de investigación en las universidades argentinas y analizar en profundidad los perfiles institucionales resultantes del devenir histórico en tres casos: las universidades nacionales de Cuyo, San Juan y San Martín. Analizaremos comparativamente la estructura institucional, las herramientas y la dotación de recursos disponibles para la promoción de las actividades de investigación en relación con el escenario universitario nacional. Los datos utilizados corresponden a tres estudios de tipo “bottom-up” sobre las instituciones mencionadas, elaborados en el marco del CECIC, y tres bases de datos: a) relevamiento primario que realizamos en 2021 sobre los espacios de investigación en el conjunto de las universidades nacionales del país; b) sistematización de una matriz de información al 2020 sobre los y las investigadores/as pertenecientes al CONICET y c) una base de datos de profesores categorizados en el Programa de incentivos a los docentes-investigadores a nivel nacional -único programa de estímulo a la investigación destinado a los docentes de las universidades nacionales del país- sobre la última convocatoria finalizada en 2019. Los modelos institucionales resultantes del vínculo que históricamente han establecido las universidades entre enseñanza e investigación revelan una profunda heterogeneidad y multiescalaridad en el sistema universitario nacional.
