Through a first semantic acceptability test, we analyze to what extent Portuñol accepts bare nouns in external argument position of episodic sentences, compared to their nominal versions with a definite article. Participants had to listen to and evaluate the degree of acceptability of sentences based on a Likert scale from 1 to 5. The second acceptability test replicates the same experiment in Uruguayan Spanish, in order to establish a comparison between these two languages. The Mann-Whitney test shows a significant difference between both conditions for both languages. Regarding the mean, the test condition in Portuñol (without article, mean = 3.7) indicates lower acceptability than the control condition (with article, mean = 4.2). However, compared to Spanish, Portuñol seems to be more flexible in the acceptance of bare nominals (test condition, mean = 2.48 and control condition, mean = 4.54). This study suggests that the grammar of Portuñol is different from Rioplatense Spanish. Este estudio explora el comportamiento del portuñol (hablado entre Uruguay y Brasil) en el ámbito nominal, desde una perspectiva experimental. Específicamente, mediante un primer test de aceptabilidad semántico se analiza en qué medida el portuñol acepta nominales escuetos en posición de argumento externo de oraciones episódicas frente a sus versiones nominales con artículo definido. Los participantes debieron escuchar y evaluar el grado de aceptabilidad de oraciones basado en una escala Likert de 1 a 5. El segundo test de aceptabilidad replica el mismo experimento en español rioplatense, de modo de establecer una comparación entre estas dos lenguas. La prueba de Mann-Whitney muestra una diferencia significativa entre ambas condiciones para las dos lenguas. En cuanto a la media, en portuñol la condición de test (sin artículo, media = 3,7) indica menor aceptabilidad que la condición de control (con artículo, media = 4,2); sin embargo, en comparación con el español rioplatense, el portuñol parece ser más flexible en la aceptación de nominales escuetos (condición de test, media = 2,48 y condición de control, media= 4,54).
