It takes as its main theme of analysis, the figure of the Egyptian and his culture. The aim of this work is to demonstrate that the image of Ancient Egypt and its society is still marked by gazes that are always focused on the mysterious, strange and at the same time fascinating of its culture. Representations that produce a cultural distance between Orient and Occident. It is a construction of representations of otherness, which for years are reflected in textbooks and which in turn create an image in the student of the other, different, strange and distant at the same time. En el presente artículo, se analiza uno de los principales libros de Historia que se utiliza en las escuelas de Nivel Medio de la Argentina. Toma como tema principal de análisis, la figura del egipcio y su cultura. El objetivo de este trabajo es demostrar que la imagen del antiguo Egipto y su sociedad todavía sigue marcada por miradas que siempre están centradas en lo misterioso, extraño y a la vez fascinante de su cultura. Representaciones que producen un distanciamiento cultural entre Oriente y Occidente. Se trata de una construcción de representaciones de la alteridad que por años se reflejan en libros de texto y que a su vez crean una imagen en el estudiante sobre el otro diferente, raro a la vez distante. No presente artigo, analisamos um dos principais livros de História que são utilizados nas escolas de Nível Médio da Argentina. Toma como tema principal de análise, a figura do Egito e sua cultura.O objetivo deste trabalho é demonstrar que a imagem do antigo Egito e sua sociedade hoje são marcadas por miradas que sempre estão centradas no misterioso, estranho e às vezes fascinante de sua cultura. Representações que produzem um distanciamento cultural entre Oriente e Ocidente.Trata-se de uma construção de representações da alteridade que por anos se reflete em livros de texto e que por sua vez cria uma imagem no estudante sobre o outro diferente, raro à vez distante.
