Through the first-person narration we realise in Holden's actions the conflicts and typical adolescence problems that are still current nowadays. Through an interpretive analysis of the plot, the purpose of this work is to account for the protagonist's relationship with himself, with grown-ups and, particularly with childhood, using as a reference framework Donald Winnicott main ideas developed in his writings on adolescence. Finally, it is expected to promote a different perspective to address the discomfort of youth in current times. El guardián entre el centeno relata el andar de Holden Cauldfiel, un adolescente de 17 años, desde que es expulsado de Pencey hasta su retorno a la casa de sus padres. A través de la narración en primera persona reconocemos en el actuar de Holden conflictos y problemáticas propias de la adolescencia presentes aún en nuestros días. Por medio de un análisis interpretativo de la obra se pretende dar cuenta de relación del protagonista consigo mismo, con los adultos y, particularmente, con la infancia, empleando como marco referencial las principales ideas de Donald Winnicott desarrolladas en sus escritos sobre adolescencia. Finalmente, se espera promover una perspectiva diferente para abordar el malestar de la juventud en la actualidad.
