In this essay we briefly review the approaches that have been employed in studying social movements, with a particular focus on labor unions. In the first section we will refer to the political process approach and its most recent innovations at the international level. Then we analyze the theoretical models used in union studies in Argentina, such as that of power resources and political exchange. Finally, we explore some theoretical contributions by Laclau (2005), from which the study of labor unions’ collective action draws. Los debates sobre la acción colectiva y los sujetos políticos contemporáneos han producido un conjunto de herramientas teóricas para el estudio de la acción colectiva y los movimientos sociales, ampliando los horizontes teóricos-analíticos. En este ensayo nos proponemos repasar brevemente los enfoques que vienen siendo utilizados para estudiar los movimientos sociales, en especial a los sindicatos. En el primer apartado haremos mención al enfoque del proceso político y sus innovaciones más recientes a nivel internacional. Luego analizamos las corrientes teóricas utilizadas en los estudios sindicales en Argentina, como los recursos de poder y el intercambio político. Finalmente, repasamos algunos aportes de la producción teórica de Laclau (2005) que viene siendo utilizada para estudiar la acción colectiva sindical. Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Sociales.
