From Paul Ricoeur's point of view, it is possible to think of it as an event and a tension, as irruption and novelty. Ricoeur's proposal characterizes true metaphors as untranslatable, with the exception of metaphors of substitution that would be the object of a translation aiming at the restoration of their literal meaning. Tension metaphors are not translatable because they create their own meaning - Ricoeur will express - with an infinite paraphrase, without the innovative production of meaning being exhausted. For Ricoeur, neither is it an ornament of discourse. The metaphor does not only fulfill an emotive value, but it offers a novelty, it brings information, "it tells us something new about reality". The question of metaphor is the staging of a tension that is debated as the primal origin of concepts, questioning the representations of the world and its "clear and distinct" capture through literal language, or as a mere rhetorical instrument to say in different ways that which is already clarified through a rather univocal language or anchored in propositional language, that is, as a didactic expression to exemplify what is already known. The purpose of this paper is none other than to trace - in the form of a detailed and schematic  commentary - some of Paul Ricoeur's proposals on the notion of metaphor ¿Es acaso la metá fora el uso de una forma para redescubrir el mundo?Desde el pensamiento de Paul Ricoeur, es posible pensar en ella como un acontecimiento y una tensió n, como irrupció n y novedad. La propuesta de Ricoeur caracteriza a las verdaderas metá foras como intraducibles, a excepció n de las metá foras de sustitució n que serían el objeto de una traducció n que apunta a la restauració n de su significació n literal. Las metá foras de tensió n no son traducibles porque ellas crean su propio sentido –expresará Ricoeur- con una pará frasis infinita, sin que la producció n innovadora de sentido sea agotada. Para Ricoeur, tampoco se trata de un ornamento del discurso. La metá fora no cumple solamente con un valor emotivo, sino que ella ofrece una novedad, trae una informació n, “nos dice algo nuevo sobre la realidad”. La cuestió n de la metá fora es la puesta en escena de una tensió n que se debate como el origen primal de los conceptos poniendo en entredicho las representaciones del mundo y su captura “clara y distinta” a través del lenguaje literal, o como mero instrumento retó rico para decir de maneras diferentes aquello que ya está esclarecido mediante un lenguaje má s bien unívoco o anclado en el lenguaje proposicional, es decir, como una expresió n didá ctica para ejemplificar lo que ya es sabido. El propó sito de este escrito no es otro que la de hacer un rastreo -al modo de un comentario minucioso y esquemá tico- por alguna de las propuestas de Paul Ricoeur en torno a la noció n de metá fora.
