In the confinement where womenlive,they see their destiny in the older one, that is also a figure of death, because she is opposite to life and sex. Confinement and silence is the outrageousduo from whichyoung womencanget outthroughan arranged marriage, in an exercise of male power to discipline bodies. La identidad es algo que evoluciona en la protagonista Frika fluctuando desde una experiencia de encierro que la lleva a cultivar la imaginación, paso previo a la actividad de escritora, a la rebeldía que la conduce a un desarrollo libre y superador de su personalidad. Entre esos dos extremos, los contrastes entre el mundo exterior y el interior de la casa al cual se reduce toda la vida de la mujer soltera musulmana, se modela la identidad de este personaje que lucha contra patriarcales y ancestrales imposiciones. En el encierro en que viven las mujeres, las más jóvenes ven su destino en la figura de la mayor que es también imagen de la muerte, en tanto es opositora a la vida y al sexo. Encierro y silencio es la dupla atroz de la que solo pueden salir las jóvenes por medio de un casamiento concertado, en un ejercicio de poder del varón para disciplinar los cuerpos.
