description This article is a critical review of the scientific literature that seeks to investigate the male presence within the relational processes of sexual and reproductive health within the framework of a doctoral research. In the first instance, the keywords were defined using the UNESCO thesaurus and then searching for those terms in different search engines for academic texts and digital repositories. Then, we select up-to-date publications produced in the last twenty years. Once this demarcation was made, we realized the various axes analyzed in previous research, namely: dynamics of sexual initiation, knowledge of adolescents about sexual and reproductive health, the relationship between men and sexual health services, studies on gender and sexuality relationships among peers and the experience of parenthood. We were able to conclude that getting started sexually is a way of proving manhood and punishing virginity, being an important instrument for configuring being a man. This also affects an earlier and earlier sexual onset. Regarding knowledge about sexuality, the aforementioned research proposes to promote assertive attitudes that allow favoring the negotiation and use of condoms, paying attention to the cultural changes of the new models of masculinities. In the order of the relationship of men with their peers, we observe that masculinity tends to be sustained through ridicule for sexual orientation and identity. Referring to the experience of fatherhood, we highlight the absence of this issue in sexual health services. Finally, the relationship of men with sexual health services shows that the sector includes men very secondarily.

Este artículo es una revisión crítica de la bibliografía científica que busca indagar la presencia masculina dentro de los procesos relacionales de salud sexual y reproductiva en el marco de una investigación doctoral. En primera instancia se definieron las palabras clave utilizando el tesauro de la UNESCO para luego buscar esos términos en diferentes motores de búsqueda de textos académicos y repositorios digitales. Luego, seleccionamos publicaciones actualizadas producidas en los últimos veinte años. Una vez realizada esta demarcación dimos cuenta de los diversos ejes analizados en las investigaciones previas, a saber: dinámicas de la iniciación sexual, conocimientos de adolescentes sobre salud sexual y reproductiva, la relación entre los varones y los servicios de salud sexual, los estudios sobre las relaciones de género y sexualidad entre pares y la experiencia de la paternidad. Pudimos concluir que, iniciarse sexualmente es una forma de probar la hombría, siendo un importante instrumento de configuración de la masculinidad hegemónica. Esto también repercute en un inicio sexual cada vez más temprano. Respecto de los conocimientos sobre sexualidad, las investigaciones mencionadas proponen promover actitudes asertivas que permitan favorecer la negociación y la utilización del preservativo prestando atención a los cambios culturales de los nuevos modelos de masculinidades. En el orden de la relación de los varones con sus pares observamos que se tiende a sustentar la masculinidad a través de burlas por la orientación sexual y la identidad. Referido a la experiencia de la paternidad, destacamos la ausencia de esta temática en los servicios de salud sexual. Finalmente, la relación de los varones con los servicios de salud sexual da cuenta de que el sector incluye muy secundariamente a los varones.
